Genetic conditions such as Klinefelter’s syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, Y-chromosome microdeletion, etc. may result in either decreased sperm production or no sperm production at all.
The pituitary gland and the hypothalamus produce hormones with the function of maintaining normal testicular function. Conditions that affect the production of such hormones, be it increased or decreased production, might result in low sperm production. Exposure to high amounts of estrogen or testosterone could also be a hormonal cause for male infertility.
